Britney Jets Off to Costa Rica w/ Mel Gibson

ET breaks news that Britney Spears and Mel Gibson are currently en route to Costa Rica on vacation together! Britney arrived on time, about 5 minutes after Mel, and the plane departed at 9:05 a.m.

We spotted them leaving on a private plane to the Central American state early this morning. Sources tell us that Mel is taking Britney and her father Jamie for a mini-vacation. We've learned they will be guests at Mel's home in Costa Rica.

According to the terms of her custody Britney's children cannot leave the country without special approval, so they are not joining her on the trip.

While the pop star and the actor may appear to be an unlikely duo, they used to live in the same Malibu community and were spotted having dinner together at Studio City's Romanov restaurant in March.

We knew Britney Spears and Mel Gibson were dinner buddies - but who would have guessed that they're close enough to travel abroad together?

ET Online is reporting that the pop princess and the silver screen legend were spotted leaving via private jet for Costa Rica around nine-ish this morning. The pair of stars arrived at the airfield separately, then got on board a private jet and took to the skies.

ET's also reporting that Britney's father is coming along for the ride, and that the whole party will stay at Mel's home during the trip. Sounds like one fun trip - do you think it's for real? We haven't heard anything about their departure from our guys - but we'll let you know if we do!
