Nope, it doesn't matter that even an anti smoking pill causes psychotic episodes. Yeah that's right... Chantix, the new Pfizer drug meant to assist smokers in the process of quitting caused Carter Albrecht, a Dallas musician, to flip out and get himself killed back in Sept.

Don't believe it? Pfizer, itself, strengthed warnings in Jan that Chantix may cause "depression and suicidal behavior".

If an anti-smoking drug can do that... what else can these new prescription drugs cause? Perhaps psychotic tendencies from our fave pop star.

TMZ has learned Sam Lutfi is under investigation by the LAPD for allegedly drugging Britney Spears.

Law enforcement sources tell us the Major Crimes Division of LAPD is on the case, after the conservators filed a complaint alleging Lutfi drugged Spears as a way of keeping her under his control. We're told the investigation is very much active.

Lutfi could not be reached for comment, however, Michael Sands, Lutfi's spokesperson, tells TMZ he is aware of the investigation.

Sam Lutfi, Britney Spears' former confidante and self proclaimed manager better continue laying low. Not only is he currently being hunted down by the people who wish to serve him with a restraining order, but he is now also being investigated by police for allegedly drugging the pop star.

TMZ is reporting that Lutfi is being investigated by the Major Crimes Division of the LAPD. Brit's conservators have complained that Sam drugged her as a way of keeping her under his control.

Lutfi, of course, could not be reached for comment, however his spokesperson Michael Sands says that he is aware of the investigation.

Britney's mom, Lynn Spears, gave a signed declaration to the court earlier this month, revealing that the night she arrived at Britney's house for an intervention, Sam openly detailed to her his method of keeping Britney drugged up.

"Sam told Jackie and me that he grinds up Britney's pills, which were on the counter and included Risperdol and Seroquel. He told us that he puts them in her food and that was the reason she had been quiet for the last three days. He told us that the doctor who is treating her is trying to get her into a sleep induced coma so that they could then give her drugs to 'heal her brain.'"

Of the investigation, a court insider confirms to OK!--"Yes. He was practicing medicine without a license when he was grinding up a cocktail of prescription pills and putting it in her food. There's no doubt about that being a felony among other charges."

Drugs he is accused of drugging her with:

Risperdal (risperidone), released in 1994, is one of the atypical antipsychotic medications used to treat schizophrenia and psychotic disorders. The drug helps manage schizophrenia's positive symptoms (e.g., visual and auditory hallucinations, delusions, and thought disturbances) and may also help treat the illness’ negative symptoms (e.g., social withdrawal, apathy, lack of motivation, and inability to experience pleasure). It may also be useful in treating acute mania and severe depression in combination with antidepressant medications. Risperdal’s side effects are usually relatively minor, and blood monitoring is not necessary.

When taken at the manufacturer's recommended dose of 6 mg/day or less. Risperdal has been observed to cause no higher rate of significant side effects than the rate observed with placebo. These side effects include extrapyramidal symptoms (muscle stiffness, tremors, and body shakes).

More significant possible side effects, affecting some patients but not all, include low blood pressure; dizziness, especially when standing up suddenly; heart palpitations; sleepiness; constipation; weight gain; sexual dysfunction; and fatigue.

Tardive dyskinesia (TD), a disfiguring side effect that occurs in some patients taking antipsychotic drugs, may not be a major risk associated with Risperdal use, although it may take years before researchers can fully assess the risk.

Risperdal can be taken before, during, or after meals. Patients should be cautious about operating hazardous machinery, including driving, until they are certain they are not adversely affected.

Seroquel is an antipsychotic medication. It works by changing the actions of chemicals in the brain. Seroquel is used to treat the symptoms of psychotic conditions such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder (manic depression).

Seroquel may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide.

Seroquel is not for use in psychotic conditions that are related to dementia. Seroquel has caused fatal pneumonia or heart failure in older adults with dementia-related conditions. Stop using Seroquel and call your doctor at once if you have the following symptoms: fever, stiff muscles, confusion, sweating, fast or uneven heartbeats, uncontrolled muscle movements, symptoms that come on suddenly such as numbness or weakness, severe headache, and problems with vision, speech, or balance.

You may have thoughts about suicide when you first start taking an antidepressant, especially if you are younger than 24 years old.
